Hudson Valley Wedding Photography | West Point Club B&C

Hudson Valley Wedding Photography is such a beautiful experience when you are blessed enough to be linked with amazing people! Beth & Chase’s West Point Club wedding was this for me and Jenn! Beth was a bridesmaid in one of our past weddings at FEAST at Round Hill in Washingtonville, NY. When Beth was ready to prepare for her own wedding, she remembered us and made it a point that BOTH me and Jenn would be at her wedding, together. Before I could give her a final answer, I asked Jenn if she’d be available for a double wedding weekend. As soon as she heard who we would be photographing she said yes!

West Point is a an amazing place with breathtaking views and sites! Also, it had special meaning for Chase since West Point was his Alma Mater. Chase picked a few places we just had to get photos at! They both chose to have a very laid back, non-traditional (other than their Catholic ceremony) wedding celebration. We met them at Trophy Point and they were all smiles and ready to start their adventure. After Trophy Point, and a few places surrounding, we headed over to the church for a quick photo session before they greeted their friends and family into the church. Greeting their loved ones was very important to them and we took a lot of pictures with a ton of fun and loving moments!

After the full mass with communion we headed over to the West Point Club where we were quickly greeted by Beth and Chase who asked us to whisk them away for a few more photos, just the two of them, so that they could catch their breath before Cocktail Hour. After pictures, Jenn and I entered the ballroom mesmerized! The room was a panoramic view overlooking the Hudson River that seated close to 300 guests! We were not prepared for that given how laid back, fun and carefree Beth and Chase were, but the ballroom proved to be just as laid back and fun as they were once the music started!

We truly enjoyed every minute with Beth, Chase and their family/friends! Everyone was so gracious and appreciative of us being there to capture this incredible day for them! And, you could tell how loved they both were, too – hanging in the ballroom was a ‘love’ quilt that was specially made from memories, quotes, blessings and talents of each of their guests that gathered! A beautiful day, a beautiful celebration and a beautiful couple – truly couldn’t have been asked for a more wonderful experience!

Hudson Valley Headshot Photographer | Dark Beauty

As a Hudson Valley Headshot Photographer I often like to collaborate with talented people in the local area. One of my goals is to get the artists I work with published in popular magazines. Getting published has always been a ‘who you know’ and ‘how big is your name’ thing but I never give up submitting and trying to get published! It’s easier to try than to give up! Ivonne Rodriguez from litemakeup had an idea for a makeup she wanted to try on a bride she worked with last year. She sent me her ideas and I got so excited for the project! Although I submitted these to a half dozen magazines we did not get published. When you submit you have to wait a while or else many of the magazines will throw out your submission because they want exclusive access to publish in case they accept your artwork. So, even though we did this session the beginning of the year, I was waiting to feature this beautiful session on my personal blog! Hope you enjoy!

Hudson Valley Art and Photography | Hudson Valley Art Annex

Last year I decided to make some changes to my Hudson Valley Photography studio and business. It was one of those easy decisions I really didn’t need to think too hard about. In my search for things to enroll my pre-teen daughter in I was met with slim pickings! There is so little out there, other than school sports, music lessons and theater! I was really surprised and my search was eye-opening; no wonder so many teens are so drawn to their electronics and screens. My daughter has never really been a screen kid. She’s drawn to youtube how-to’s, commentaries and anime but other than that she’d rather be creating! Last fall I enrolled her in cake decorating classes which she loved but she was the ONLY kid and was surrounded by moms and grandma’s.

When I was her age there really wasn’t anything for us tweens to do either but I do remember a lot of cool things that were introduced and learned in middle/high school. I explored online some of the things I learned and showed my daughter. She was really surprised that school taught so many different things like encaustic painting (painting with wax), sculpting, metal respousse, design and animation. She begged me to teach her some of them. I asked her if other kids would enjoy things like this and her eyes grew wide and said a big, hearty, “YES!” So the logical take away was to open an art school. Not just any art school because there are so many incredible art schools throughout the Hudson Valley, but an art school that concentrates on 2 things: The lost/forgotten arts and crafts and our beloved tween/teen age group!

Beginning of 2016, the Hudson Valley Art Annex was born! Here is the website to read all about it! We will be offering after school, weekend and summer camp intensives! Classes begin in April 2016! www.hvartannex.com and like the facebook page to keep updated: www.facebook.com/hudsonvalleyartannexhudson valley art and photography

Hudson Valley Photography | 2015 Year in Review

2015 is quickly coming to a close! I am both happy and sad to see it go! I have had so many fond memories and experiences this past year! So many are ready for a new year while I look forward to continuing my Hudson Valley Photography adventure on through to a new year! Here is a recap and review of my extraordinary 2015 year – Where to start?

First, I was blessed to team up with an incredible team of models and artists for an epic photography project I have been extremely blessed to have had the opportunity to do! Some of you have seen the progress and the ultimate end project. For those that haven’t been following the project here is the website with behind the scenes and information about the project: www.superheroproject.photographybycarlise.com and here is the final blogpost with all of the supermodels morphed into body painted female superheroes: http://www.photographybycarliseblog.com/2015/08/hudson-valley-portraits-female-iconic-superheroes-come-to-life/ – So sad that this project is over but I have more incredible projects on the horizon I am super excited to share once they start up, stay tuned!!11x14

I met so many incredible people in 2015! One of these was a woman by the name of Allie! Allie is a warrior woman, cancer survivor, kickass persona who writes about her journey in her online blog: Allie’s World – Allie entered my life around the same time one of my beloved family members started going thru chemo and treatments. She shared with me her story and thoughts and she’s become such an inspiration to me! Below is one of my favorite series of photos taken during a CELEBRATE! session with me in the beginning of 2015. I was blessed and honored to welcome her back near the end of 2015 to photograph her again with her incredible husband by her side…blog to follow soon!

2015 was definitely filled with so many diverse photo sessions! Body painting, newborns, weddings, fitness, headshots, bikini models, glamour sessions, prosthetic makeups, commercial shoots, lots and lots of boudoir and the list goes on! Ever since photographing The Body Angel (dancer and fitness athlete, Ashley Williams) I wanted to shoot more dancers! And I got my wish a couple months into 2015! Here are a few of my faves from the session:hudson valley photography jld_46editSpring of 2015 my little nephew was sitting up and all smiles! He is the one of the happiest and most precious babies I know! He is starting to form a bond with my daughter (11 years his senior) that is so wonderful to witness. It reminds me of when I was big sis and caregiver to my little sister (also 11 years apart). Definitely a joy to experience – here are his adorable little 7 month old expressions!hudson valley photography

Technically, I photographed this generational mother/daughter photoshoot tail end of 2014, my plans were to advertise with it for a 2015 mother’s day promotion. However, the promotion never made it off the ground due to the busyness of the studio. Even though I didn’t get to do a promo event, this session still has such a special place in my heart: This is Jody, her daughter Audrey (from the group Moe & Tom) and her mother Robin (playwright and designer) together. Jody was one of my incredible singing teachers and coaches. Her voice is blessed with the kiss of God but so is her personality and soul! I love her so much and she will always remain a special part of my life! This is my ultimate fave of the 3 of them plus a small out take – enjoy (makeup and hair by the incredible Ivonne from litemakeup:hudson valley photography4

Mid 2015 I was blessed and honored to connect with a bunch of wonderful business owners! Here is an introduction to a few:

Alyssa Marie Dunlap – I met her on Facebook during the superhero project. Actually I met quite a lot of people during the project but as I followed Alyssa and her journey/philosophy I was hooked. She started an incredible movement called ‘Live Limitless’ which transformed into a clothing and philosophy line named ‘Zaqavi’. I am in awe of the brand, the story and the people behind this movement. Here are Alyssa’s business and about page to read all about her Zaqavi line: http://www.zaqavi.com/about/

The Flying Frida – Nicole’s painted jewelry designs are beautiful and look like pure magic! Custom designed and handpainted, no two pieces will ever look alike so you are getting a true original design! Check out her inventory and order a unique, one-of-a-kind piece of art today! http://theflyingfrida.storenvy.com/

Aikido Master, Dave Nemeroff – Dave is a former high school classmate and martial arts master and teacher. He has close to 30 years experience in the martial arts field! He runs a successful dojo in Lehigh Valley, PA and is an accomplished author! So proud of my friend and happy to share his insight with you all. Here is his Enter into Aikido book and his school, Aikido Masters Self Defense Academy

Button Bouquets – Jenn is a dear friend and fellow photographer who has a love of crafts and buttons! I remember her talking to me about her button collection and thinking that was such a unique and fun thing to collect. Well, she took her little hobby and made it into a side business. Her Button Bouquets are both sweet, elegant and perfect for thank you gifts, teachers gifts, events, home decor and anything else you can think. Check out her Facebook and click on her etsy to order: Button Bouquets

As I mentioned above, I was blessed to be connected with so many fitness teachers and coaches during the superhero project! Here are a few, click their websites:

I slowed down a bit with weddings in 2015. Only doing a handful which honestly was the perfect amount considering how jam packed my schedule was in 2015! I was able to personally attend to each and every couple without feeling overburdened or like I was drowning. If I only shot weddings and no other sessions then I’d be able to take on a lot more but this year just didn’t allow me that opportunity. I was thrilled with the couples I did get to photograph, each of them were incredible to work with! Here are a few highlights of each!hudson valley weddings

Summer of 2015 was my first ever Bikini Madness photoshoot! I had a blast with 6 beautiful athletes, competitors and pro models! We were all blessed to be able to shoot on Ivonne’s property (makeup and hair artist for the event – litemakeup). She has an incredible stream in the back of her property which worked out perfectly for a classy, fun and inspired bikini photo session. We cannot wait for the next one coming up Summer ’16 – stay tuned or contact for more info!! Here are a couple of my favorites from the day!wgroup1 82-10etrop     82-187etrop 82-203etrop 82-285etrop

End of summer I was honored to be asked to capture headshots of young actress, Ripley Sobo. I first met this child star when my daughter and her were at the Acting Out Playhouse in Warwick, NY way back when they were just teeny little mice in Cinderella Jr! Ripley certainly has that spark which has propelled her to broadway stardom in Once the musical and as one of the Matilda’s in Matilda the Musical. She’s also been in a handful of films including Steve Jobs with Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet, and Winter’s Tale with Jennifer Connelly and Colin Farrell. Can’t wait to see what else she does, it’s been a blast watching her career take off!ripley sobo             And here is my daughter and Ripley having a great time as mice in Cinderella Jr. at the Acting Out Playhouse – photo by Claire Fraserhudson valley photography

One of the many highlights came in the form of a friend! Autumn, a good friend and talented photographer contacted me to do some last minute family photos. She knew I do not normally do family portraits but she took a chance and her chance was rewarded, lol! Seriously though I am so glad I said yes to her request! I had a blast and if all family portraits were this quick, easy and fun then I would consider putting them back into my rep! Here is a collage of my favorites from the session!hudson valley photography And to end this incredibly long post I leave you with a montage of favorites from each session throughout my 2015 season (some have been omitted due to privacy) – enjoy!!hudson valley photography

Hudson Valley Fitness Photography | Prepping for photos

Hudson Valley Fitness Photography demands a little before session prep to ensure a successful photoshoot! In the years that I have been photographing fitness models I noted some thoughts and planning to be done beforehand. Here is a list to help you – use it as a checklist if you’d like!

A few weeks before:

-Make sure you are getting enough sleep

-Alcohol in moderation or none at all, alcohol tends to bloat the body and it takes a few days to a week to allow the body to settle down

-Need to up your training so that your gains will show – even if you are coming in for a bikini type shoot you still want to look worked out

-Start teeth whitening but don’t go overboard (REMEMBER: It is easier for me to add white than take away!)hudson-valley-fitness-1

1 week before:

-Get a facial so a natural glow shows thru

-Exfoliate your skin

-If you choose to cut your hair do it now, do not wait especially men

-Start planning your outfits and make sure they fit and are not constricting on any parts of your bodyhudson-valley-fitness-2

3-4 days before:

-I highly recommend NOT getting a tan but if you must please no lotion or self tans! Fake tans tend to be an unattractive color and a bad lotion/self tan is all kinds of blotchy, streaks and orange (no good unless you want to be an ommpah). If you must tan then a reputable spray tan or ultraviolet tan is sort of preferred. But only go a half shade darker than your normal (REMEMBER: It is easier to add color than take away)

-Wax or if waxing doesn’t work for you get a really good all over shave (shaving can be done 1-2 days before)

-If you need to color your hair or get extensions do it during this time period to give time for color to settle and extensions to relax

-Start packing your photoshoot bag! Make sure items that need ironing gets ironed. Lint roll anything that needs rolling. Get rid of faded colored clothing, just doesn’t look good in photos. Hair ties!! Shoes – make sure sneakers are clean (a bit of an oversight sometimes!). Heels? Some like to bring them to pop the calves and help show off sculpted thighs/buttocks…bringing them is totally up to you and what you’d like for your shoot! Also, bring more outfits than you plan to wear so that you have options day of your shoot

-If you are wanting ripped, toned body muscle to show thru you’ll need to deplete water (please be under the guidance of your coach and trainer for this)

-If you are going for a more bikini, softer look then you’ll need to UP your water intake (again be under the guidance of your coach or trainer)hudson-valley-fitness-3

Day before:

-Get plenty of sleep! More than likely your fitness shoot will be tiring!

-Get a good workout in

-Lots of protein, you’ll need the energy

-Double check you have everything!

-Look in the mirror and practice posing especially with your eyes closed…feel what your best poses look like internally…what is your head doing, hands, hips, arms and legs doing? I usually do not like selfies but I advise taking pictures of yourself so you get used to what you look like in digital image form (for head to toe shots shoot with camera at the hip – for headshots shoot with camera at the chest instead of above your head)hudson-valley-fitness-4

Day of your shoot:

-Bring a buddy if you’d like

-Plan to arrive a few minutes earlier BUT don’t panic if you are caught up in traffic or got lost – I am a very understanding person!!

-Bring energy, you can even workout a bit in my studio to get you pumped

-Bring snacks and liquids

-AND, Most importantly: HAVE FUN!! Don’t be afraid to talk to me and tell me your thoughts/ideas about your session! I am very flexible and will help you thru everything! And if you hired me to shoot your fitness photos then I cannot wait to meet you!! hudson-valley-fitness-5hudson-valley-fitness-6
